Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center 2018

May 16, 2018

A group of students went to Wolf Ridge for 3 days and 2 nights.  Attendees faced their fears while hiking, doing a high ropes course, rock climbing, and exploring nature.  Upon their return, students expressed how they were greatly impacted by this experience.  One student said they went up to Wolf Ridge as one person and came back completely changed and ready to connect more with peers and show the world who they really are.  This experience is hard to put into words!

Youth Summit

March 15, 2018

Watershed High School sent six students to the Youth Summit hosted by OutFront MN and the GSA Network.  The day was focused on continuing to build a network of powerful, supportive, young leaders and grow the collective capacity to:

  • take action for justice and equity in our schools and communities so we can all thrive;

  • develop healthy relationships with ourselves and each other;

  • challenge and change systems that oppress people based on race, gender, sexual orientation, income, ability, and other aspects of identity.

One Watershed student even presented a workshop to other youth titled Importance of LGBTQ People in the Media.  This student received a lot of positive feedback during the workshop as other students could relate to the material and had many things to say about different characters and the roles they play in the media.

Festival of Compassion

November 17, 2017

The Festival of Compassion: An annual event at Watershed that celebrates compassion-- What it is; why it’s necessary in today’s society; why it’s especially important at a place like Watershed.

Stone Soup: As a school, we make “Stone Soup” to show that alone, we don’t have much, but when we help each other, we have a lot. Each student brings one vegetarian item for the soup. Students can bring vegetable bouillon, a carrot, dried rice, pasta, a can of peas, a clove of garlic, a potato, etc. whatever you have handy in your pantry! Any leftover ingredients will be donated to families in need.

Bowl Exchange: Everyone goes to the thrift store, Grandma’s closet or a local pottery shop and chooses a fun bowl to bring to school. The bowls can be vintage, goofy, ugly or fun! Choose one that is interesting to you. (Staff members wash/sterilize all the bowls once they get to school.) The kids set the bowls out and as they come through the soup line later, each student gets to choose a bowl and keep it as a souvenir of the day.

Clothing Exchange/Donation: Save a trip to your local donation center! Bring clean items from your closets that you no longer want, need or fit into! Clothes, shoes in good shape, coats, hats, and mittens are all needed. We have a clothing exchange where kids get to choose items to take home, then we donate the rest to local charities like the Epilepsy Foundation, DAV or ARC.
